They are doing something different. Now even with dollar surges you will hardly see a long ride with a surge but they are all going towards short rides. I’ve confirmed this on numerous occasions where a usual $10 ride is surging for $30 and a usual $75 ride is at $80-85. It’s like they are betting drivers will automatically pick long rides without surges because you see a higher dollar amount earned vs short 2-3 $ rides. What’s more is the heat map is no longer operating in real time or close to it like last time it was implemented. I’ll be in an area surfing for 10/15 dollars and when I try to book a ride I’m billed for the usual non surfing price. It’s all messed up but it makes sense when you think Uber is doing this to get new drivers and incentivize short rides.
