Why UFO research is not widely respected

i think you make an interesting and valid point- "People with an adequate capacity for skepticism were quick to see the absurdity of this sighting, which then brings into question virtually every other UFO sighting, even (and perhaps particularly) those with video evidence. As usual, people were too quick to assume some sort of extraterrestrial cause..."

i look at it from the angle that whenever you discuss the topic of UFO's you're automatically placed in the fringe as with so many other 'conspiracy theorists'- why? because to even entertain the possibility of extraterrestrials visiting earth would imply that a variety of government's are actively misleading the public from these unusual occurrences- with that- it becomes a hostile beginning for a logical discussion- as it carries the baggage of: the government is lying to the public. its not popular to entertain such thoughts because of this baggage.

i have always been interested in a variety interesting subjects and sometimes controversial topic's, and the discussion of UFO's has always intrigued me. even from a young age, ive always thought it was strange how one of the most interesting topics on earth faces so much public ridicule and is constantly surrounded by absurdity.

when you look at the topic of religion, a follower is taking a leap of faith to accept that there are certain supernatural forces in the world around us.whats interesting is that is socially acceptable, but to entertain the thought that some extraterrestrial beings may be briefly and covertly dropping by from time to time is absurd?
