Look the world's economic is fucked up sure, but it's more visceral to sell a story of a truck running through innocent people and children than it is to talk about people getting fired from their jobs close to Christmas, the increased dependency on foodbanks, and suicide rates of males.

And tbh I get that, random carnage is hard to mentally reconcile, that's why the terror works.

Step 1, broad range geopolitical and military interference in foreign countries on behalf of other countries and resource self interest.

Step 2 nutters in chaos of foreign country seize power (disaster capitalism 101) from other secular nutters by promising bullshit to the people. Most don't accept, some do because people are attracted to stability even if the one bringing it is a complete maniac.

Step 3 more geopolitical interferencr

Step 4 nutters realise their fear of death is less than random civilians love of life, and that sporadic attacks work way better than anything else does to create fear and terror and destabilisation in historically strong European and western countries.

Step 5 governments fearing more reprisals crack down on population associated with nutters, some links tenuous, other links accurate.

Step 6 population associated with nutters then have some peeps join nutters.

Step 7 nutters get stronger problem gets worse.

In my mind the solution is either 1) a completely discriminatory approach to immigration but one that largely works in reduction of attacks but not elimination of them (if a person is determined they can easily get through any type of borders that aren't manned by autoturrets). 2) working with conservative members of host community to find leads and get to people before they get radixalised over the Internet (where most of this shit is happening). Most people who have had lives outside a European country are tremendously greatful to live in one and there's a well spring of good people in that group. 3) more interfaith and interethnic initiatives (yes religion isn't race but tbh I don't see any Bruneian Muslims causing much aggravation do you).

I think a emphasis on 2 but with aspects of 1 needed. (halt on immigration from Syria and lots of vetting needed)

The most controversial thing is that the Internet probably does need some form of censorship on these places people aggregate to get rqdixalised
