[UK] Male suicides at highest rate in two decades, official data shows

I don't see why we would focus on equalising the suicide rate when to me the issue is about lowering the (male) suicide rate. If the male suicide rate drops far enough it will eventually be equal to the female rate as well. People in stressful careers, or people who lack a job entirely, need societal tools to deal with these stresses. Things like a mandatory amount of vacation days offered by the employer are an example that has already been implemented, I don't know what would be the best method of decreasing it further though. Maybe a reform could make workplaces more connected to the mental healthcare system or we could have sickdays also be available as rest days, things like that. Equalising job participation across different professions is also important, but it isn't a method to lower suicide rates.
