UK prime minister: Sunak leads race, Johnson yet to declare

Bizarre to see the home of parliamentary democracy pander to people who want a presidential system of democracy. If you want the later - change the system through parliament and get checks and balances that the US has.

A Prime Minister is not directly elected by the people, they are elected by MPs to form a government.

Arguing for a general election when a Prime Minister resigns while a party holds a majority in parliament is a subversion of parliamentary democracy.

The system of letting card carrying members of the party "elect" a Prime Minister is also a subversion of parliamentary democracy.

It's created a personality cult where an individual gets to have a much larger say in government than they normally would have if MPs were free to do what their conscience would tell them to do - without always having to bend down to populist voices which most of the time is disastrous in the long term or even the short term as we have seen with Truss.
