UK will receive Hong Kong refugees

no. it was bcs you signed a lease on chinese land in 1898 for 99 years. lease brits forced with threats and army so the brits would have a nice big port of their own in the far east.

Actually we won Hong Kong Island and Kowloon in perpetuity when China ceded them to us after the opium wars. The lease came in future negotiations for expanded territory. Hong Kong Island had not been heavily developed or populated at the time we took control and has greatly expanded since. As such when the 99 year lease of the expanded territory was up, the colony that had started in Hong Kong had spread far into the leased territory. When China would not negotiate on the lease, we made the decision to not split the colony and keep the parts (Hong Kong Island and Kowloon) which had been ours in perpetuity and not part of the lease. So we gave it all back.

it is really foolish to think brits were in china for the betterment of mankind.

Who the fuck said that? I know I didn't.

It was the way of the world in the past. To go out and expand your territory. Most countries have done this throughout history including China. Britain and Spain just ended up being really good at it. It always gets me how the Spanish Empire seems to get forgotten about and all the hate gets heaped upon the British Empire.

the strongest write the history books and brits, your time is up.

Que sera sera. The great wheel turns. Nations rise and fall. So it has been and so it shall be. This is the human history of our world.

and about the fairness of colonies just look up British colonies in Africa before you start that we gave everyone their freedom bullshit
