[UK] Young child hit by a car after running into road (skip to 0:53)

I feel for the driver, they will remember that for life.

25 years ago I turned into my road (narrow Victorian terraced houses), a neighbours little girl (6-7yo) was being chased down the ally by her brother, who was throwing water balloons at her. The ally must have only been 15m from the road junction, she ran right in front of my car. I hit her and like the video above, she flew about 3 car lengths down the road. My wife got out and help up and home, I couldn't get out of the car. I sat there for half an hour shaking before I could get out. I sat at home for an hour waiting for the police to turn up, and none did. I went down to her house. The girl was OK, the mum was more interested in getting ready to go to the pub.

It is still in my mind when I drive down a high street and see parents not paying attention to what their kids are doing.

At work I have had a few rowdy arguments with management, when their contractors come on site and don't pay attention when walking between our busy Fork Lift Truck and JCB's. In an accident between a vehicle and a pedestrian, it's not just the pedestrian who is affected.
