York - 22, Upper Management for Samsung. 40hr pw - Salary + Company benefits.

I feel like I'm lucky to have achieved this, but I do work very hard and I'd like offer you my words and you can take it or leave it if you find it helpful or not.

I was in a similar place to you not so long ago. I was finishing College, looking at universities. Thinking about a career and what was available to me, college assured me University was the option for everyone and where your dreams will come true.

I got there and hated it, this isn't to say you won't enjoy it. But I'd argue that its good to be a little bit cautious, there is a brutal reality in our society that is often missed. Universities are clever marketers. "A Degree guarantee's you better job opportunities and higher wages" It doesn't, "93% of our students go on to jobs after finishing at our university." Right? so they got a job because they're worried about their rent or wanna attack some of that massive debt you've given them?. Anyone that says they can guarantee you something with regards to your career is often being a little bit disingenuous even with the best intent when it comes to Uni.

Your gearing yourself towards being more employable and making yourself a more attractive candidate, that is what university should be for, that and gaining more knowledge of course, in my experience your CV is almost a list of accolades and is designed to get you that all important interview, I've never felt not having a degree has given me any less of a chance of getting that job I want and I certainly don't feel like its a hindrance, if anything its great because I haven't much debt. My point being is when you walk into that interview for that job with Firm X or Firm Y, they're typically always going to go with the first impression and their gut feeling and how you present yourself.

To cut a long one short, when your considering your options, find options other than university to throw into the mix, Uni can be great and is ideal if your passionate about doing something fairly specialist, but don't put all your eggs in one basket, the one piece of advice I wish someone had told me is that the world is literally your oyster. Opportunities will come your way that you can jump on or let pass you by, Your full of energy and lust for life, your becoming a proper adult, Your clearly wise for your years because your on this sub-reddit ;) and you have the right to do whatever you can to achieve your dreams, it sounds a bit airy fairy, but genuinely, there is so much out there for you, many paths, pick the one that works for you and see where it takes you.
