Finally. At one of the initial stages of the war Ukraine tried to appear sympathetic to the CCP, some officials even entertained China as one of the security guarantors for Ukraine after the possible peace agreement with Russia. And that even after China’s support for the invader was apparently evident. This is a big change and indeed the first step from this naïve view of China as a country interested in peace, toward the realization that nothing good comes from trying to be nice with dictatorships. Ukrainians have had bad experience of looking up to foreign authoritarians like Lukashenko and having to deal with the consequences of this romantic view of seemingly benevolent leaders.
