College professor here.
HAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAAA!!!
I love when students think we haven't seen this before. Another class paper, or a blank word doc, or any number of ruses like this. I have a late policy (1/3 grade drop per day late) and it includes "mistakes" like this.
More importantly, though, (and this might not apply to every professor) if you ask for a day or two extension, and don't abuse it by asking for extensions all the time, I'm happy to give you that. I know y'all got lots of things due at once and work and whatnot. Do shit like this, though, and I won't be super excited to help you out in the future.
Some professors, like any subset of humans, are assholes but most aren't. Just ask for an extra day. It's way less hassle than emailing you that you submitted the wrong paper then looking at your real paper and looking at the properties and seeing that you started it two hours after it was due and then telling you your dumbass and you failed (which I don't like to do) etc. etc.
