You can get a commercial driver's license, a pilot's license, you can get IT degrees or mechanical degrees--I sound a lot like an American lol. I'm Canadian, I do have an uncle who worked for the military for quite some time and he was of the desk variety.

Depends on the country too I guess. Canada doesn't have such a thing and we have a large population of people whose forefathers came here specifically because they would not fight in wars and would not allow themselves to be conscripted by European governments. But if we did, I wouldn't worry all that much because Canada's military is largely although not entirely involved in non-controversial operations.
