No, self-extinction isn't smart or a sign of being smart. Survival is the first test of any strategy. Continuing to exist is the first job, before you go on to other jobs. You can't do other things if you haven't survived.

There is a happy medium someplace, where a developed mind in a woman does not result in her love of the office and her loathing of the home and the nursery. Women who have done both will tell you the coffee and the company are much better at home.

Maybe you will make your own post about this anguishing subject. A basic implied promise of the women's movement back in the Sixties was that most women would continue to have children. Because extinction from lack of children as a result of women's liberation was the big fear and the big objection to the women's movement. But as you say, that hasn't happened.
