UN denounces ‘homophobic and racist’ reporting on monkeypox spread

Smallpox killed more people in the 20th century alone than all the wars, famines, and other natural disasters in human history combined, not just including the 20th century. Smallpox was also the main disease responsible for the eventual extinction of the civilizations in the Americas, as it was not known in North and South America before the Europeans came, and the Indigenous people had no existing immunity and it hit everyone all at once. (Much like we do not have existing immunity.) The disaster resulted in social collapses much like seen in Europe after the Black Death, except worse, as many as 90% of people died within a span of ~20 years or so.

By the time Europeans came in large numbers some decades later, they wondered why such a fertile and pleasant land was largely unpopulated.

It is the most horrific bane on humanity to have ever existed.
