Undercover footage that appears to show extremely sick cows being smuggled into a Polish slaughterhouse and sold on with little or no veterinary inspection has raised alarm about standards in one of the EU’s largest meat exporters.

Sources on vegetables causing cancer?

I don't exactly have em saved anywhere convenient. I'll do the legwork to go look 'em up again at some point.

Red meat is a type 2a carcinogen

Source? I do remember this being published, but I'm also pretty sure we've fairly reliably found that preserved meat was the actual issue. When that's controlled for red meat is fine. So yeah, we should probably back off the colt cuts and hot dogs.

saturated fat and cholesterol have long been implicated in causing heart disease

The last 10 or so years have been saying otherwise. Most every randomized controlled study in the past decade has been saying otherwise. Observational research is great, but the findings should be validated by properly controlled studies and in this case, that just isn't happening.

Dietary cholesterol doesn't have that strong an effect on your cholesterol. It has some effect, sure, but it's negligent enough that the WHO (World Health Organisation) has basically dropped the issue entirely in the past few years.

The only diet shown to reverse heart disease, the number 1 killer of humans, was plant based.

This hasn't happened in a controlled study yet. Send me a source and I'll gladly stand corrected. Just like vegetarian diets, there have been observational studies that show ketogenic diets reverse heart disease. I wouldn't give that too much stalk either.

Given all the issues we've already seen with observational studies on vegetarian diets (selection bias to kingdom come), saying that it's been shown to reverse heart disease is wishful thinking and saying it's the only diet to do so it just wrong.

Being vegetarian is well correlated with better health outcomes in America. Extremely well correlated, in fact. That exactly why observational studies have such problems. While it's rare you find a vegetarian who isn't at least aware of their health, but just about every other omnivore around things McDs makes for a nutritious snack. The only real message there is that if being vegetarian will get you off the standard american diet, you should absolutely do it.
