Understanding "White Veganism" and Food appropriation. Some links to articles discussing this topic.

I'm a mixed race person and I think that the idea of "food appropriation" is oppressive and infantilising white liberal garbage. Food is to be shared and learned about; we should not be degrading food from unfamiliar cultures as "icky".

To address the post; I am a vegan because I believe that the idea that any being enforcing its supremacy over any other being is wrongful. If it's interpersonal or interspecies, that supremacy is wrong.

One of the most common justifications for oppression or heirachy is "[Thing A] is different to [Thing B], therefore [Heirarchy] is okay". If someone thinks they have a right to make an animal endure suffering, simply by virtue of them having some difference, that logic can quickly be applied to extend to any other beings who are 'different'. There is no place to 'draw a line', in my view; suffering is suffering.

Of course, in our vegan activism we ought to consider that those in poverty (who are disproportionately non-white) are less materially capable to make this dietary change; hence we must take all action possible to improve material conditions such that all can be liberated and live a vegan life.
