Ungratefulness when working with kids is one of the worst

I’m a Teaching Assistant at an Elementary School, and unfortunately I see a lot of the same stuff.

We go out of our way to make a difference in the students’ lives, and receive negative, nasty comments in return...I had a student tell me this week that he thinks it’s hilarious to be rude to adults, because we ‘try so hard to be nice to them and he loves to see us disappointed and hurt, it’s embarrassing.’

I deal with it by reminding myself that their negative attitudes in school is a direct result of their lives at home. I try to have as much patience and compassion as possible, because I have no idea what they deal with when they leave school.
