Unitec vs. Open Polytechnic for Quantity Surveying

Depends on where you want to go with your QS career. If you are one of those natural number bods, you will do well in highly technical areas of QS, working in a technical trade (eg. Civil), or as main contractor QS or consultancy QS. In that case Unitec is recommended, as you’ll get more “extra curricular” QS education, and you’ll make contacts. You can also go on to do the degree.

On the other hand, if you’re an ex tradie, or just looking at QS qualification to get off the tools, or just into any office type estimation or cost management type job, the distance option is ok. You will need to be able to manage yourself better. Half the battle when learning a new thing is that nothing makes sense yet, and you need to be spoon fed for the first wee while, as the new information overload + trying to teach yourself is too much overload.

I’m sure the distance option caters for that. However distance learning can be a long slog.. you may want to consider just going full time at unitec and just getting it done
