Agreed that Britain has contributed hugely creatively & imaginatively. However, Italy & Spain were once powerhouses in that respect globally also. And, personally, I think “creaking” is being kind with regards to the British political system.

Britain could one day be again, countries such as China proving it possible, but I very much doubt anyone here will still be alive to see such a turnaround.

To borrow a phrase from Britain’s very own, the divisive Margaret Thatcher, it has been in a state of “managed decline” for some time. It is perilously close to free fall due to ineptitude & greed. Not terminal, but certainly not good.
