Just as an additional response to the great comments by /u/grape_jelly_sammich and /u/Zeknichov

You have to understand that cultural conceptions change and indeed will have to change as we move in to an increasingly automated society. These old perceptions are going to have to modernize as society adapts. Of course there will be people who struggle against the evolution of society. maybe they'll feel terrible: but for every older person feeling terrible at getting 'free money' there is, I guarantee you as someone from a working class family: another two, minimum, who are going to be absolutely grateful that the struggle has lessened.

And as time goes on, they will adapt, and as the generations progress new generations will be born who don't have that outdated mentality.
