Most people have a desire to do "something." If you work a menial job that has no value to you other than a paycheck, then yeah, your going to be a lot less motivated to do that job. On the other hand, UBI allows people to pursue thier true passions. What would you do if you didn't have to worry about basic needs like shelter and food. If that part of your life was taken care of, it allows you to put all your time and energy into what you really want to do. Sure, some lazy schmucks will sit at home doing nothing, but those are the same people that aren't achieving a lot in the workforce anyway. The lazy bums on UBI are the same ones that today are on welfare, homeless, and the minimum wage lifers you see at places like Wal-Mart and gas stations. Most poeple would grow bored of that life relatively quickly.

A UBI would allow people to pursue thier dreams and achieve mastery in what they do. Very few poeple have the chance to do that in our current system.

Think of how great the world could be if we had more poeple who invented incredible things because they had the time on thier hands to become an expert in thier favored subject.
