University forces professor to change syllabus that threatened to dismiss students who argue against BLM, abortion or same-sex marriage

I'm just kinda confused at the brouhaha. There are arguments that are defensible, and there are arguments that really aren't. Starting with "Gay people don't deserve rights" as the premise for your persuasive essay is like starting a Rimworld game on an ice sheet with three volatile depressive pyromaniacs on the hardest difficulty setting. Just like some nutball might be able to create a viable colony with that, maybe the Michael Jordan of conservative essay writing can pull out a passing grade. But I'm not the Michael Jordan of anything, so I'm just going to stay clear of all of that.

It's just way, way easier to write some inoffensive milquetoast bullshit about any other topic that you can back up with solid sources and not have to worry that your entire essay is tap-dancing on a minefield of advocating oppression.
