The university ‘free speech crisis’ has been a rightwing myth for 50 years | Evan Smith | Opinion

Only this week I enjoyed being lectured by the Equalities Officer about diversity and inclusion in our student society. In a society meeting that had 20 members attending, of which 4 were white British.

Our Athena Swan lecture was carried out by a white man who said he knows what it feels like to be excluded because he's Jewish and doesn't like Rugby. That the bodies trying to carry these things out are largely headed by folks nearing retirement age trying to create feel-good credentials and a PR fanbase for their for-profit education service and generally wind up creating a shambolic token-gesture mess that really just pisses off everyone involved, doesn't mean these ideas are bad in and of themselves.
