You are conflating luck with end result and that is your problem.

As for #2 it is the most relevant as your captain scores double the fantasy points. Its obvious you are a rookie FPL player or just never played it seriously for defending that team. More bad decisions = lesser desired outcome. It's that simple.
Here's a statistic, Salah coming into GW13 had I believe 52 more points than the 2nd highest scoring player in the game. Salah is owned by 78.2%(last I checked, all the serious players).
Her team did not have Salah.
But let me guess... its luck she didnt select Salah? Haha
