Unpopular Opinion(?): If your parents aren’t paying for college, they shouldn’t get to control every aspect of your life.

Wow. Just wow.

First, if they ARE paying for your college (which is not cheap) you should have the utmost respect for them.

But if they aren't, you should still have the utmost respect for them, it may just be how your parents were raised, or they're trying to make sure you're not getting screwed by college, or that you're doing okay.

Honestly, you sound like a brat:

" while they didn’t really do anything for me "

Wtf... they didnt do anything? Did you have a job that paid the rent/mortgage, bills, food, buying supplies for you, and literally everything else in between? I dont think so. And if they didnt support you along the way school-wise, they don't have to. It's something you should learn: getting crap done by yourself.

Sit down and talk with them, tell them directly how you feel and they will understand you. If they don't, don't make it worse and just go your flow. You'll eventually be out.
