Unpopular opinion: Paul is being reasonable

Well it can be done - you just have to have some real thick skin, determination, and a desire to not become victim of circumstance. Our judicial system is ironic in the sense that it’s whole goal is to prevent recidivism. But when you have a criminal record say for selling drugs, and you want to turn you life around- but can’t find a decent job. “Well shoot I’d make 5000 a week off flipping dope why should I bother I’m trying?”

The system defeats many many people before they even have the chance. And how can you expect someone to want to rejoin society when you strip them of the rights that makes one feel a part of society? The capacity to have a well paying job, to vote, to have a right to privacy. I remember my family member used to say “it feels like this whole world judges me based on something I did half a decade ago- I have all the potential in the world and yet- because of 4 words on paper I can’t even get a job”

It’s dehumanizing and it makes people think they aren’t as much value to society. So why bother? That’s one of the reasons we have a prison problem
