Unpopular Opinion: Try to move around outside in the heat

But you put this out there as a PSA under the guise of an unpopular opinion as if the burden of responsibility for poor infrastructure falls on us as individual consumers, and imply the best response is to raise our thermostats and start working out outside. If everyone who was capable of doing that, did, then there’d be no reason to pay attention to energy demands. The point is having the capacity to keep us not only safe but also comfortable in our indoor environments.

It’s up to the infrastructure, not me as a consumer, to procure the energy it takes to keep me safe and comfortable in my home. The “fuck ERCOT, let the grid fail” mentality isn’t so much as coming from privilege as it is coming from a standard and reasonable expectation for people to do their damn job. My neighbor doesn’t care about what my thermostat is set at. I’ll help where I can, but I’m also not going to be sitting in an 81 degree home all summer. Back in the office days we’d get sent home when the AC broke and the office reached 80 bc it was pretty unreasonable to expect people to comfortably work in that condition.
