Unpopular Opinions Thread 27/10/19

I had to get this off my chest, and I apologize for this. Azure Moon is my least favorite route in Three Houses by a massive margin. For the amount of time and energy that was clearly spent on it, it:

-Drops plotlines in a way I found massively dissatisfying. Dimitri unintentionally killing Thales magically removes a thousand year-old massively influential death cult forever, even though it is the only route where Shambala is never discovered. The fact they still have access to nuclear missiles? Completely ignored. Rhea, who White Clouds sets up as a smoking gun, disappears off-screen.

-People drag Edelgard's and Claude's routes for lacking consequences, but Dimitri literally faces so little pushback for anything he does, beyond Sylvain and Felix saying that they're angry at Dimitri in some missable monastery conversations. Dimitri tortures people for pleasure, and Byleth at best mildly pushes back. Dimitri's actions directly get Felix's dad killed? Felix just rolls with it, after spending all of Azure Moon talking about how he's afraid Dimitri is going to get someone killed. Telling everyone that he'll use them until they're dead? Sweet, good people like Mercedes, Ashe, and Annette still follow him.

-After all the talk about how Edelgard is a conquerer, and arguing how rulers don't have the right to enforce their morality on a "single person,">! Dimitri makes the unilateral decision to not allow the Alliance or the Empire to maintain sovereignty and sets himself up as the sole ruler of Fodlan. !<It comes across as massively hypocritical.

-This is the big one for me. Speaking as someone with PTSD who works in a psych field, Dimitri being directly responsible for Rodrigue's deathshould have broken him completely. Instead, he suddenly becomes functional, and all of his problems become confined to an A-support with Felix, and a possible reference in his S-support with Byleth, basically disappearing from the main story. I couldn't help but feel as someone with PTSD that Dimitri's mental problems in this game were targeted at giving players a redeemable Berkut figure for people to "fix." In a game that handles mental illness very well overall, Dimitri's ability to suddenly become his old self, with all of his problems sublimated to background text, is really frustrating.
