[Unresolved Crime] America’s forgotten bomber: who mailed pipe bombs to televangelists in 1990?

Moody seems unlikely on several fronts:

He’d have been around 55 years old and if you’ve ever seen pictures he looked closer to 60s — doesn’t match the suspect seen dropping off the packages.

He’d have driven a long way to mail them from N.C., although that’s certainly possible.

By 1990 he had killed two men (a federal judge and a civil rights attorney) with bombs (the year before) — and a few others that he sent were intercepted before reaching their targets after the alert went out (similar targets). So he was 2 for 2 on killing with bombs by then, seems unlikely to me that he would not only change preferred target but also reduce the deadliness of his bombs ... if anything, bombers tend to want bigger bangs and body counts as they go along and learn more from what their devices do.

In 1972 his wife had opened a package in their house and been nearly blown to bits (not killed, but had 6 operations with serious injuries all over) and the intended target (had he mailed it rather than his wife stumbling across it) was a car dealer who had repossessed a car.

In the case of his deadly bombs, the judge was in the same circuit to which he had unsuccessfully appealed his conviction on the ‘72 bomb (and at least one more was sent to a judge but intercepted) and the theory on the civil rights attorney as well as an NAACP lawy
