'Unsustainable' theft at UBC convenience store after 35% of undergrads report insufficient access to food

No one is saying stealing should be accepted. People want to find the root cause of the issue and fix it because it's obvious that UBC has money to help but is not willing.

Life can be unfair but it doesn't mean people can't make the choice to go follow what they want instead of what they need. They can go into trades out of HS or they can go do something cushy when they leave UBC and set themselves and their future families up.

I didn't go to UBC. I grew up hella poor. I went into trades and am now in a cushy desk job. I busted my ass off and did well. I'm happy where I am at. However, I would be lying if I didnt say I wish I could be doing something bigger. Or have an office that has 10 different milks, fresh baked goods, and all these other wild benefits. Going to school would have given me that option. Again i'm happy, but I could see improvements.

I think a large amount of people grow an ego when they go to UBC. I have plenty of friends who did. I crack jokes about it all the time. The amount of sexual assault that happens at UBC is absurd and the environment doesn't help. It's quite disgusting that it's so easily accepted but that's another story.

Not sure why every other person I meet in trades or has taken the "harder" route always likes to take this high road. Lets just look at the system and see where the issue is. These are kids who are hungry and are still growing up.

Here's your participation award for living the hard life.
