Update - City police called my wife saying a store reported her for mis-scanning at a self check out to steal things.

I agree that most people who are in court and being prosecuted are probably guilty of something but because of my experience it feels frightening to me that people would just blindly assume guilt. I also don’t think most cops and prosecutors are bad. However that experience really caused issues for me. I had to wait until my court date for a voluntary dismissal which was incredibly nerve racking. I felt the cops close ranks around me and my pleas for decency and fairness mostly fell on deaf ears. I felt like a giant was trying to destroy me. Even though it was dismissed it still comes up on a background check that I’ve been arrested and then at the very bottom of my record it says “VD” as if anyone besides me and a prosecutor knows what that means. I also spent two days in jail etc.
