Update: Indianapolis officer who kicked homeless man in face for being loud, indicted by grand jury [one count deprivation of rights]. Officer remains suspended without pay [News Article Linked]

As someone whose been on a grand jury, District attorneys and officers are not meant to give their opinions, however they often hint off their opinions a lot of the time.

There was a case when a 32 year old man charged a boy who was literally half his age with a pipe, and the boy stabbed back. The jury voted to indict. We literally didn’t have enough jurors due to Covid and they pulled another juror from another panel to make enough for the count.

The other jurors didn’t seem to understand morality in many of the cases. You don’t vote to indict just because they read some charges off to you. Especially younger jurors. One girl even was laughing and joking about us not being able to a indict child for a school fight, we indicted the mother who jumped in after her child got jumped by two other girls. I don’t think it’s right that we as a country abandon all reason in the courtroom.

One man even got indicted for stealing diapers and sanitary wipes for his family.

Our country has failed our people. But the worst part is when our people fail our people in the court of law.

My father is a an attorney. A general practitioner. I have seen thousands of people tango with the criminal court system and you always have to ask yourself why. Half of the District attorneys are white and definitely have never seen the county beyond the courthouse. My county is a county in NY with a big minority population. Our institutions are made of people who don’t care what happens to us.

Why? Why do we treat people like this?
