Firstly, kudos to you. Just because he was bigger doesn't always mean a straight loss, personally I would probably take some sort of self defence class for the future/peace of mind.

I feel sorry for what your partner went through, but to just up and leave while you're going through this is pretty shitty. Not only did you do something honourable but you were physically incapable of looking after yourself and your partner didn't contact you for two weeks before even giving you an explanation.
