Update: My best friend’s (31F) husband (32M) was fired for being friendly with a coworker (18F).

I got fired for sexual harassment once.

I’m a heterosexual male, I worked in a male dominated industry where crude humor was commonplace.

One of my coworkers said he was going to buy a Monster energy drink from the vending machine, I told him “what are you going to buy one for, I have a monster right here! Open wide!” and I gestured to my crotch. All five guys in the group laughed, including me and the guy I said this to.

The next day, the target of my joke was fired for a combination of customer complaints and poor job performance.

A week later I was made aware that he alleged that he was fired for turning down my sexual advances (that my “monster” joke was propositioning him for oral sex).

The other guys in the room corroborated my story, but I was told that the company would be in big trouble if they didn’t fire me.

It was a stupid thing for me to do, and I thoroughly regret my actions especially if the other guy was truly made uncomfortable by my comments. I was only 21 years old at the time and I’ve grown a lot since.

My wife (girlfriend at the time) was a little freaked out when I told her I why I was fired.
