Update: Uvalde, Texas Robb Elementary school shooter is in custody

That’s an incredibly sunny view of the reality of things like supervision, in and out patient care, group care, medication. I’ve spent my whole life around friends and family with debilitating mental health issues and those things often cause way more harm than good. The history of mental healthcare in America is hideous and it has improved only moderately and superficially. There is endless exploitation, abuse, greed, indifference, and incompetence. I don’t know how “government-subsidized psychologists track young citizens’ potential threat levels and mandate ‘mental healthcare’ for them” sounds like a solution. Budding mass shooters aren’t going to decide to go to group therapy!!! Background checks are a no-brainer and maybe it couldn’t hurt to have free mental healthcare but the whole “it’s a mental illness issue” thing is just a way of shrugging off the much much larger factors which are a) easy access to guns and b) the internet
