Upgrade cpu or gpu?

GPUCheck is a far better source for that kind of thing IMO.

Still not to be taken as the "be all end all" of course, but I've never seen it claim anything that didn't seem reasonably accurate to me.

The results for them with an i7-7700K at stock settings are nearly equal when it's a 1080 for the GPU in both cases, which is roughly what I'd expect in reality.

So with a 7700K they'd have effectively equal performance in games to the 3700x by default, with plenty of OC headroom to take things way past there if they wanted.
