Urgent: Wrongfully given a root canal???PLEASE HELP

If this were my tooth, I'd give pulp capping a try before jumping to RCT.

My tooth was in even worse condition than yours as it was already symptomatic. I found a dentist specialized in vital pulp therapy who excavated the decay and direct pulp capped it with Bisco Theracal. The pulp was cariously exposed.

This procedure was done in February 2017. The postop tooth was unresponsive at all to cold test for several months and occasionally sore. It was a little sensitive to EPT but the reading was high. Dentists and I strongly suspected the nerve necrotized, several recommending immediate crown + RCT, but I stubbornly held on waiting to see if things would improve.

As of a month ago, the tooth began to respond normally to endo ice test and EPT, which is an indication that it has come back to life.

My dentist's theory is, the reason my tooth was insensitive to temperature tests was that the nerve was temporarily numbed by the trauma it had gone through. As with most living tissues, it needed time to heal.
