The mother and a few other sources in the community say he changed drastically after 2 concussions from sports and a beating he got in the street. The difference in his behaviour was so severe that she got him to seek help and he was eventually diagnosed with schizophrenia. It doesn't make sense to you or I but he may not have been reacting to what was actually the reality of the situation but instead to whatever was going on in his mind.

I'm not saying any of this to excuse his actions; he does need to face the consequences, but maybe it helps to give some context.

In the broader scope of things I think tackling mental health issues thoroughly and offering accessible treatment can vastly improve everyone's quality of life and help to minimise tragedies such as these from occuring.
