USA Sold to the Highest Bidder [8:10]

I usually love h3h3 posts but I felt like this one was ill-advised and too politically charged. No representation was given for the reasoning used by those that voted in favor of passing the bill.

From an LA Times article about the bill:

Republicans and broadband companies opposed the rules because they imposed tougher restrictions on high-speed Internet providers than on websites and social networks, which also collect and use such data.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Wednesday that the FCC’s privacy regulations make “the Internet an uneven playing field” and stifle innovation.

NCTA — the Internet & Television Assn., a trade group that includes cable companies, praised the Senate vote and said it would not harm consumer privacy.

“Our industry remains committed to offering services that protect the privacy and security of the personal information of our customers,” the group said. “We support this step towards reversing the FCC’s misguided approach and look forward to restoring a consistent approach to online privacy protection that consumers want and deserve.”

So it seems that republicans are arguing that ISP's and webservices are not being treated the same. It's not that case that there's no logical reason to pass this kind of legislature.

The infographic he used to back his case doesn't tell the full story since it only details 22 senators that voted for the bill. It doesn't have any data for the rest of them that voted in favor of the legislation, nor does it have any documentation of contributions towards senators that voted against the legislation, both of which would paint a better picture of the situation.

I'm all in favor of political activism, but we need to make sure we're looking at all the evidence here, not just some of it.
