I appreciate that you feel for the victims of gun violence, we are all humans at the end of the day and do deserve our best shot at a full life. I want to make clear that I also detest these shootings.
In my view, as an American, gun control will never work here. It’s too late, gun control works in Europe because there has not been 200 years of firearms being pumped out into the general population.
We have something stupid like 350 million (registered) firearms in this country and no one knows how many more un-registered fire arms are out here because it’s not required to register them in most places. Add into the equation the advances in 3D printed guns and you end up with a lot more firearms in this county than people.
If for whatever reason the USA government was on the same page about this and enacted some kind of gun control then I have no idea how it would ever effectively be enforced. Sure the law abiding gun owners would turn in their now “illegal guns,” but what is going to stop the criminals from just keeping their guns? Guns will never not be in this country, period. Even if they stopped making them today, the government could never confiscate them all. Especially because they don’t even know how many are out there.
So know with gun control, sure it will limit some form of death and violence but it will never be at the level your at in Europe. Me personally, knowing how many crazy people are in this country, I am never not owning guns.
In my opinion, we need to make sooooooooo many other changes in our country that are more important. If we were able to bring medecine, housing, and education costs down to a reasonable level for everyone in the USA I would bet my life savings that those actions would stop more gun violence than the actual gun control laws.
As a side note, I get super offended knowing how hard a lot of Americans have it in terms of low pay, low job security, and high costs of everything. Then our leaders come out and talk about how guns are the problem but yet do nothing to address the circumstances that lead people to going crazy and then getting relatively easy access to guns.
Long story short the USA is a mess and I don’t want to un-armed here.
