USC with some loans vs UCSB

hello!

as a third-year, premed student at usc I think I can provide a bit of insight about our programs and resources. to clarify, we don't have a premed counselor that helps throughout all steps. we do have prehealth advising, where you can schedule to meet with an advisor as needed for info/application help etc, but they don't contact you to make sure you're doing everything you need to.

I'm not exactly sure what feeders to internships/volunteer work you're referring to. the prehealth office sends out some opportunities, but there is no guarantee that you will be admitted to programs. you do have access to advisors post-grad however.

I will admit usc has pretty good prehealth resources/advisors compared to many schools (a lot of students will say stuff isn't helpful, but usc does put a lot of effort into providing resources for students).

however, prehealth advisors will not get you into medical school. if you're certain about a career in medicine what matters is finding a major/program you want to study, less debt, access to internships/clinical work. pre-medical is a path to a career.

I will say medicine is a long journey and nothing is guaranteed, including admissions - be optimistic, but make sure you make the best decisions for your personal situation.

good luck!
