"I used to work at McDonald's making minimum wage..." Chris Rock [600x490]

as much as I hate hearing people whine about situations they caused themselves, I am also tired of hearing all the backhanded comments about how a person isn't working hard enough when they're pushing 60hours in a week.

There is a problem with how money is divvied out here and yet these well paid individuals write down their opinion pieces on why workers should be content with what's given to them.

Then I hear ignorant comments like how EMS staff get paid less than $15 or how other important jobs or careers don't earn that amount, I'm sickened by this. The person saving my life should be paid well. Why are people attacking the lowest rung of workers for asking for a higher wage by making an example out other workers in vital positions who also deserve a higher wage?

Workers deserve comfort? Why is there so much hate for this as well? Are they not working? Are they putting in the time and busting their asses to do their best at every task? What happened to the blue collar work force? When did blue collar become synonymous with slave wages and why is it such an abhorrent idea to be paid a decent wage and not be white collar? For the few hours a worker is home between shifts they really should be able to live somewhat comfortably. Does everyone deserve comfort? The answer is no they don’t. Does a hard worker deserve comfort? It’s hard to say no to this and almost completely despicable to say no to this.

I've dealt with many managers over the years, many are really good at what they do and many are incompetent. Not everyone is capable of the task, should they be so severely stifled for their incapabilities? It is true they should not be paid as much as those that are capable but they at least should be able to live and live properly in a different position; not as something less than human barely scraping by because they could not impress the right person.

And the absolute worst comments 'you just don't understand how it works economically', why does this person not back up their point? why do they not give a source? even if it is a complex topic at least give something small to back up the position stated.

Then there are the pulled up by my bootstraps persons each with their own unique (emphasis on unique) story of how they went from bagboy to CEO. You know, it’s great; it is absolutely great that you are doing well. I'm glad you gave your experience on how you managed to go to school and work at the same time and managed to find a job soon after, thank you, thank you for this heartwarming tale; I'm so glad you were capable of doing that while eating only the basest of foods, supporting a family, paying rent, paying your utilities, and generally metaphorically eating the scraps thrown at the edge of the table of your employer as you hoped that some high hand would reach down and point you to the direction of a chair for you to sit near at said table. Thank you for this tale, that helps those struggling right now so much. All of your sacrifice paid off for you while they continue to work and continue to sacrifice without much if anything to show for it. If everyone could emulate your success story you’d be complaining on the street that ‘CEOs don’t get paid enough’ as your job would then be common, a working class job if you will.

The last point I will make is that many claim that laziness is the reason for these low wages. Most lazy employees do not remain employees for long. And for those that do work hard, and they offer the best service; how can you not expect resentment from them when you accuse them of laziness? Why is the worker lazy and incompetent? Now flip this argument, what is the employer? What is their generalization if not the complete opposite, a back breaking slave driver willing to sell out their employees for a quick buck. Why is the employer an evil slave driver? Why can’t we all (both employer and employee) be respectable human beings without these awful generalizations?

That’s it; I’ve covered every shitty comment I've seen supporting the case against a minimum wage hike.

Now for those vehemently against any type of minimum wage raise could provide quality comments pointing out the perceived fallacies of a minimum wage increase that would be way more welcome.
