User banned from /r/Planetside after using a meme which involved the word "trap" and is forced to submit a 500 line of text essay on the impact of transphobia in America in order for the ban to be lifted.

I was a regular on the planetside sub for a couple years under another pseudonym, and I can honestly sympathize with the mods a bit for making a hasty, overly harsh decision.

The Planetside community has some serious issues with aggression and racism. The most popular planetside 2 streamer was buzzcutpsycho, who got banned from twitch for repeatedly screaming "nigger" at people, among other things, and caught an in-game ban for a bit for ordering his whole outfit (clan/guild) to harass (by repeatedly teamkilling) people that he deemed unlikable. The guy is a ridiculous troll, and inspired a lot of shitty assholes to hang out on the game Planetside.

The Planetside playerbase as a whole has many fairly nasty people, with a lot of very real racism - not jokes, not memes, I'm talking users posting/linking actual KKK videos. Not "kkk-ish" -- no, real actual KKK chapters' videos. A friend of mine who was a "leader" in the game had someone tell them they were going to show up at the next Sony event to beat their face in because we were beating them at the game pretty decisively in a head to head match up.

I caught users quite literally going through the post history of other users they didn't like, and showing up wherever that person posted to tell them they were worthless trash, should kill themselves, etc. -- Why? In one case, it was because that person disagreed with them on game balance.

The reason I changed my pseudonym is because one of the more nasty, infamous people on the sub was reddit-stalking me, taking screenshots of all my posts and submitting them all over reddit in an attempt to drum up a witch hunt, and was trying to find out my real life information to harass me directly.

So, Planetside has a serious problem with its user base. The mod in question was trigger happy here and should reverse the ban. They should also give up mod position on the sub, since they don't even play the game any more. I can sympathize, though, because there's an insane amount of real assholes that frequent Planetside. If you took a look at the other planetside subs that don't moderate harshly, they're are completely unusable piles of shit because so much of the userbase are such cunts.
