We used to be a country that could put a man on the moon. A country that could end world wars. We still could be a country that gives stimulus payments, that sends everyone masks, that sends food to seniors in quarantine or to people in hard-hit areas. We could be a country that taps its ingenuity to solve problems.

We could be a country that defeats COVID.

But we aren't, because the GOP wants us to believe that government is, by its very nature, harmful. We aren't, because the President cares more about his image than human life. We aren't, because we've run out of ideas, arguing on Reddit that "there's nothing else we can do." So let's just give up and let the virus "wash over us" and see who dies. We've lost the American spirit.
