[VA] Deducting PTO leave for Salaried Employee who hits 40 hours in the week

Most companies with correctly classified exempt employees make them take PTO if they will miss more than 1/2 of the day.

Thank you. I guess then I should ask for comp time or more PTO in general.

As for my classification, it's a grey area because I work in IT (System Administrator) and my salary is high.

As for working for "free", that is just my choice for my own job satisfaction. I like to do a good job and I don't like to worry about watching my time. I also have to work at irregular hours sometimes due to the nature of my work.

The whole thing just irritates me. I am the most productive employee by far. I work extra, all the time! I do extra, all the time! It's insane how much better I am than my coworkers -- one of whom constantly falls asleep at work and plays on his phone or even tablet! It's insane. That is why I am so upset because why are they coming for my poor little PTO? When I am working in excess of 40 literally every single week?

So anyways sounds like it's a lame policy and I am just going to throw my weight around and give them the option of converting me back to hourly/non exempt (with no reduction in base rate!), give me an additional 80 hours PTO each year as part of my comp and they can keep their lame policy, or I walk.

I'm just tired of being hassled over nothing.

Sorry for my long reply.. I"m just so irritated. I took OT exempt because it came with a 25% pay increase. Now they want me to adjust my pay rate down to build in for expected OT? They call it "pre-approved" OT. lol. That's just talking myself out of the raise! That we just negotiated a few months ago.

My current rate if it were hourly -- $48
If my work hour target is 41 -- $46.34
If my work hour target is 43 -- $43.22
If my work hour target is 45 -- $40.49
If my work hour target is 47 -- $38.08

I average 45 hours a week.

All this because the "OPs manager" who is just the owners childhood friend who has no experience in the roe, decided to take our win/win situation where I got my raise and I could work as much as I wanted, and now is making it lose/lose for the owner and simultaneously pissing me the hell off.
