One of the Toronto city councilor families owns half of Chesswood near Downsview. My company was looking at leasing an industrial factory there.

The spot we looked at on Chesswood was complete neglected. Had no HVAC, no fire suppression system, no emergency exits, no plumbing and had black mold on some of the walls. When we forwarded our offer to them we required they bring the space up to code for us to lease it (they wanted $47/square foot + TMI.) They offered us $2500 and refused to fix it in any way. It would cost us at least $200,000 just to bring it to code.

We then attempted to book five other places in that area and were told it is all owned by the same councilor and their family. One of INDUSTRIAL spaces was home to an illegal Jewish school and Korean church. Both places had no fire suppression, plumbing or HVAC.

Our company was so disgusted we had our lawyers formally report them to the province, city and fire department.

Their goal was to never sell, it is to hold onto the property like gold until it is purchased and rebuilt because it is so close to the new Downsview station.

Most people who run government are all profiting from the housing and property crisis in Canada. They have no incentive to fix it. They are often slum lords.

The liberals literally have a program where they buy old houses and buildings, refinish them and then rent them to the public. They are literally flipping property with tax payer money.
