[VANILLA] Settlement Challenge: Forget the Flat Four! Faction Challenge

[There be Spoilers in them thar hills...] I'm posting mine now. I just know that if I wait, I'll get busy with work and never find the time to post it.

Location: Country Crossing Uniform: Shadowed Combat Armor Weapon type: Scoped Rifles... They follow the Courier's advice as law. Building materials: Concrete & metal Story time...

The Commonwealth Gunrunners (a.k.a. CG)

[Back story, as lore-friendly as possible]

After receiving the Golden Branch from the NCR, and coupled with his exhaustive efforts to bring peace and stability to the Mojave, the Courier decided to take a break from his fame and celebrity status. The idea of trying to find Cass took hold and he decided to follow her trail east.

Shortly after setting out, the Courier came across several of the Gunrunners' boys who were leaving the Mojave due to NCR's newest policies that all firearm sales were to be taxed and purchasers were going to have to register their firearms (ick right?). The Courier decided to let these new friends tag along, after all, what is one more companion...

The Courier's journeys eventually lead him towards the Commonwealth of old Boston; he had received a tip that Cass was after a new alcohol being brewed by some brothers at the "Wall.” Unfortunately, while traveling, the Courier took an arrow in the knee when his party was ambushed by some local radstag hunters. Sadly, they had tipped their arrows in bloatfly tar (a highly toxic substance that kills within moments, yet somehow leaves the radstag meat reasonably edible).

The Courier's party of ex-Gunrunners continued and eventually settled in Country Crossing. They wanted nothing more than to establish a robust arms trading post; however, it seemed that the Commonwealth was not as easy a market to conquer as the Mojave was. Their one, single outpost is the only one they have been able to establish.

While well defended inside, their policy is to allow the unfortunate would besiegers into their settlement. They do not even use a gate and from outside their high walls, not a single turret or guard post can be seen. Scavengers, Raiders, Rust Devils and even Gunners cannot help but try their luck at this seemingly ripe settlement. However, any who dare enter are never seen again. No one knows whether the brave souls who enter are killed or simply converted. Until recently, only Doc Weathers ever came and went from that place; however, a few days ago, the Sole Survivor from Vault 111 was rumored to be seen leaving those unguarded walls...

[Settlement Description]

The Commonwealth Gunrunners are an up-and-coming arms conglomerate looking to make their mark on the Commonwealth using Country Crossing as their primary base of operations. Since they (obviously) lack the original Gunrunner's infrastructure, progress has been slow. There is a dedicated arms merchant; they have not quite figured out how to program one of their bots to handle sales. However, they did figure out how to make their robots handle the tedious task of farming.

In addition to their preeminent arms tycoon status, the CG have found a phenomenal use for the various gangs that keep trying to infiltrate their safe haven. At least one of the guards with Doc Weathers will cough up their hard-earned caps. Every. Single. Time. Poor sods have yet to figure out that the might of the CG's turrets is simply insurmountable.

Speaking of the might of the turrets, the Commonwealth Gunrunners are efficient (not lazy). Why should they have to leave the comfort of their walls simply to retrieve loot from scavvers? All turrets face inwards; this serves two purposes. First, it lures more of the raiders and various Commonwealth gangs in (for that sweet loot). Second, it means that when someone is foolish enough to give 500 caps for a chance at primo-gear, it is like a being at the casino: The house always wins. See, they did learn something from their time in the Mojave after all.

Finally, their manager shows off in a pristine pre-war tuxedo that some synth-loving chick managed to add ballistic weave to. In exchange for this awesome gift, the CG promised to make their wares available to all Railroad agents at an amazing -1% discount. Of their negotiations, all the manager would say is this. "That psycho-synth-loving chick was scary with her big guns, but none too bright... If she had paid better attention during the negotiations, she would have realized what she was signing and, better yet, she may have realized that we will sell our guns to anyone with the caps... If only the raiders and gangs would realize the same thing--nah, who am I kidding we enjoy the free boost to our low-end, affordable weapons line."

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to tell the story that this settlement created in my head. I did not make the settlement to fit this story/background, the settlement created itself and the story just grew on its own. Thanks and I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed creating it.
