Varanasi?

Well, a number of reasons, but if you really wanted to, you could make an interesting trip of it.

First, it's positively filthy, and I have a high tolerance for filth. This is the life endangering kind of shit. And the crowd, it's unlike anywhere else in India (I should know, I travel by Mumbai local trains daily). And the heat, but you'll get used to that in a few hours.

Now speaking of adventure, I'm assuming you're not referring of exploring the wild, or adventure sports, or any nature stuff. Because there is none to be had.

If you're looking adventure in the sense of a new environment and experiencing stuff you can only find in India, sure it'll be great. Varanasi is a flurry of color, sights, sounds and people. Religion too, if you're into that. The problem is, it gets old real fast. After a point, say 2 weeks in, you begin questioning if trading discomfort for discovering this foreign environment it's worth it. The crowd and jostling begin to take it's toll, and there isn't much left that you haven't seen already. To be honest, it isn't a very diverse or versatile destination. Just the Ganges, temples, and nothing else really.

So what I would do is not spend more than a week or 10 days at Varanasi, and use the remaining time to see other parts of this beautiful country too. To be honest with you, India is an awesome country to explore, but Varanasi wouldn't rank so high on the 'places that make up the India experience' list. You want to stay away from the cities and other tourist traps? Cool, do that. There's a lot of stuff you can do here, and spending all your time in Varanasi doesn't make much sense to me.

But do what you will! Good luck and happy travels!

PS: I read somewhere in this thread that your last so was Indian? Do central american girls have a thing for brown boys? A trip to Colombia/Brazil/Mexico is on my mind for my 19th bday!(you know, coz all the blow)
