Look into Christian Universalism. It’s a Christian theology that was very prevalent in the early church. George Macdonald, the author/pastor who inspired CS Lewis, was a universalist and the theology greatly affected Lewis’ own beliefs. Lewis believed the “gates of hell are locked from the inside.” Meaning people that didn’t want to be there wouldn’t be. Lewis wasn’t a universalist. But many Christians have been. The interpretation it makes of the text makes Christianity a little easier to hold on to.
