Vehicle driven into people in Stockholm - BBC News

As a self proclaimed moderate muslim, news like this is heartbreaking and my thoughts go out to the Swedish people. Hopefully the assholes who did this are caught alive and their whole network is dismantled.

I usually hesitate to post anything on Reddit (mostly because of my severe downvote allergy), especially during such times when emotions are running high. However, i feel that i have to point out the glaring lack of unbiased perspective in this thread when it comes to the whole Islamic fundamentalism issue. The "Us Vs. Them" mindset only leads to relative morality and impractical solutions.

Even though i do identify as a muslim, i identify as a human first and it pisses me off when certain people think it's okay for hundreds of thousand people (including mostly civilians) to die because of USA's ill conceived and deceitful invasion of Iraq under the false pretext of crushing terrorism but cry foul only when something like this happens in the west.

Sure, Islamic terrorism is a real thing. Sure, the religion needs reformation, however, it is just not as simple as that. The role of US in further destabilizing some of the most inherently volatile areas cannot be understated. Why is it so difficult to understand that every time you invade a country or drop bombs on civilians, you create more ammunition and propaganda for the extremists to eventually recruit affected people to their cause. It's a very simple concept. Imagine someone in such a scenario. They are playing bayonetta 2 one minute and the next minute their whole family is bombed. Moderate minded or not, that person is an easy target for recruiters and his story and desire for exacting vengeance upon his enemy could be an inspiration for others around him.

TLDR; "Us Vs. Them" views do not get us anywhere. We need to have an unbiased view of the whole situation and have the moral courage to hold all culprit parties accountable irrespective of our "affiliations".
