[Vent] Denied at a humane society after spending over an hour bonding with a dog I thought I'd be taking home

Yup. I was getting the cold shoulder/run around from multiple rescues and shelters in my considerably large city, with a surplus of dogs needing homes. With a background in rescue and behaviorally issue GSD. It was a joke, but I was patient and played the game, waiting for almost any dog, I was not picky.

I told my family my frustrations on a Sunday night and said "I am just going to keep the next stray I find." I was at a job working in one of the worst ghettos in my city, where I regularly found lost/stray/abandoned dogs all the time. Animal welfare was so shockingly abysmal in this area and I could tell you stories that would make any dog lovers stomach turn over. I would bring them back to their owners if they seemed simply lost, or turn them over to the shelter if abused. I also rehomed many of them to the homeless population I was working with and saw some great relationships develop between two parties who needed each other.

Well lo and behold that next Tuesday a six month old GSD puppy came running across the street right towards me. No chip, no collar, dirty, unbrushed. I was told by some of the locals that she had been living in a drainage canal off the freeway for about a week, and living off their hand outs.

That's my dog now, and shes been loved since day one, and she never had to be housed in a dog shelter and watch people come in and leave without her for weeks or months on end.

And my next dog with be a Boston Terrier from a breeder. Because I love dogs to my very core, and my ability to provide for one isn't going to be determined by some slack jaw county employee who can't recognize a good owner from a bad owner after doing a verbal interview and sorting through a mound of paperwork after seeing me come in week after week looking for someone to save.

End rant.
